Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi visited the Soviet Union at the end of the 1980s. They both had the habit of filling up notebooks with thoughts, drawings, notes and recipes: a hotchpotch which reflects their own way of working. The volume features a selection of pages from these notebooks, reproduced here for the first time, thus providing us with access to the very source of their inspirations. Essays by Corinne Diserens, Eva Fabbris and Andrea Lisson.
We wanted to find a layout that highlighted the notebooks that Yervant and Angela drafted during their visit to the Soviet Union, and keep the aestetics and uniqueness of this hotchpotch. An interesting conversation with the artists helped to capture the spirit of the books as well as the intention of the cinematographers, who assembled drawings and text in a way close to their work for the big screen.
